Charly Espina’s Mark
surprises the radio gal

IT WAS ALL supposed to be an act -- KCCN FM 100's Charly Espina would try on a wedding dress at Sayumi's Princess Garden Bridal Salon in Aloha Tower Marketplace, freak out boyfriend Mark Takahama in the process and send him running for cover. Espina taped the bit last week for a "Hot Hawaiian Nights" live television broadcast, which aired Friday on KFVE.

After repeating the scene a few times, Takahama unexpectedly approached Espina in her dress instead of running away. While cameras continued to roll, he professed that Espina is "the love of my life, and I can't wait to spend eternity with you." Getting down on one knee Takahama formally proposed, asking the morning show co-host to "walk through the mists of time with me as my partner and wife." Ho, da cute, yeah? The two plan to wed in February of next year on Lanai ...

JOURNEY OVER to Sand Island R&B tomorrow night for both a birthday bash and going-away party of sorts. After 11 years of running Sand Island Restaurant and Bar, Brad Coles is moving on to greener pastures. While the club's location isn't the best, local blues fans have been lucky to have a steady venue for that type of music.

Scheduled entertainment for tomorrow's party is Soulvine, who make the trip here from San Francisco. All proceeds from the event will go to the non-profit organization Musical Youth of Hawaii. Sand Island R&B is located at 197 Sand Island Access Rd. Call 847-5001 ...

I'M STILL getting a kick out of seeing Sanoe Lake in print and on television. And did you see her on the latest Lenny Kravitz video? If you're a fan of the movie and want to help out a good cause, then head over to Pictures Plus at Kahala Mall. On display is a framed, 2.5 x 12-foot long collectible poster from the film (originally created as a bus advertisement) that people can bid on through the end of the month. The winner will be notified Sept. 1. A portion of the proceeds from the auction have been earmarked to benefit the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation ...

ON SATURDAY, help welcome back the guys from Go Jimmy Go from the Vans Warped Tour at the Hawaiian Hut. The Hellbound Hounds kick things off at 10 p.m., and there will also be giveaways from Electric, Gravis, Natural Koncept and Volcom. DJ Big Bar will also be on hand for this 18-and-over homecoming party on the grounds of the Ala Moana Hotel ...
