lfujimori@starbulletin.com"We think it's just one suspect" who stabbed both victims, said Lt. Bill Kato of the Honolulu Police Department Homicide Division.
Kato said police are hoping someone who was at the party comes forward to help identify the suspect.
The suspect was described as in his early 20s, about 6 feet, 175 to 200 pounds, with a dark complexion and a thin build. He was wearing a long-sleeve dark blue shirt, dark shorts and a white beanie.
Police identified the slain man as a 23-year-old Wahiawa resident. His name will be released pending notification of his next-of-kin. The party, for a 19-year-old woman, was held at 61-631 Kamehameha Hwy., near Laniakea Beach.
Police said about 30 people crashed the party at about midnight, and fights broke out. As many as 50 people altogether were at the party, Kato said.
"We're not sure of the sequence of events," Kato said.
But sometime during the brawl, people were throwing beer bottles, according to a CrimeStoppers news release.
Several men mobbed the man who was killed, police said. The fight began at the residence and moved across the street to the beach park, where the victim was found lifeless.
Another man was stabbed twice in the upper torso during the brawl, police said. He was flown by helicopter to Queen's Medical Center in serious condition. His name also was not released.
A third man was hit from behind on the back of the head with a beer bottle. Both victims said they saw a knife and provided the same description of their attacker, Kato said.
It was unclear yesterday whether police recovered a knife at the scene.
Police had a difficult time getting more information because as officers arrived about 1:40 a.m., partygoers scattered, police said. Some people were uncooperative, police said.
"If any of them have any information, we're asking they please come forward and assist," Kato said.
