The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Biotechs gain ground

Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc., the best-performing stock this year in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index, added to its gains this week an as it outpaced the 11 other stocks in the group.

The company formerly known as Aquasearch Inc. jumped 7.7 percent to 14 cents in boosting its gain for the year to 141.4 percent.

Next in line was Kauai shrimp producer Ceatech USA Inc., which gained 4.8 percent to 65 cents.

Hawaiian Airlines Inc., which Tuesday reported a second-quarter loss of $31.1 million, was the worst performer as it fell 13.1 percent to $2.52.
