Employees of Dave & Buster's got together Tuesday for a picnic and a game of tackle football at Ala Moana Park. Ikaika Rogers tried running with the ball but was pulled down by Chris Cahill, aided by Clayton Peralta and Paul Oshiro. Seth Blancaflor, in red shorts, and Charlie Trellis, right, came at Rogers from the front ats Alii Turner watched in back.

Recent overcast skies have hindered the sundial at the Urban Garden Center in Pearl City from performing its usual time-telling duties. Jan McEwen, urban horticulturist at the center, took advantage of the situation Tuesday, pulling a weed in the "face" of the clock.
TRAINING FOR A LIFE OF SERVICE

Maui resident Karen O'Neill got help from her dog-in-training Chipper yesterday to open a door at Kaahumanu Center in Kahului. O'Neill is going through two weeks of intensive training to acquaint her with her new dog, provided by the nonprofit Hawaii Canines for Independence. Assistance dogs such as Chipper learn about 90 commands, including signs that tell them when to bark. The dogs begin receiving training when they are about 14 weeks old and are ready for service when they are about a year and a half old.
