Gov. Ben Cayetano has named Mary Alice Evans as interim comptroller of the state Department of Accounting and General Services starting Friday.

Evans, who has served as DAGS deputy comptroller since November 2000, will replace Glenn Okimoto, who has been tapped to serve as Harbors Division administrator of the state Department of Transportation.

Dean Seki, special assistant to the comptroller, will serve as deputy comptroller.

Gov. Ben Cayetano said both have been valuable to his administration and he's confident they will strongly support the department's work, which includes repairing public schools and other state buildings, and the procurement of goods and services.

Previously, Evans, who has a master's degree in planning, worked in the governor's research office and as a planner for the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. She was also a past member of the city Planning Commission.
