"October Road"

James Taylor (Columbia)

Taylor's Web site announces that this is his first new studio album since 1997's "Hourglass."

It includes the first single off the album, "On the 4th of July," and, for the first time on a commercial release, his newly recorded version of the seasonal classic "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," which was released to select radio stations across the country in November of last year. The title track includes guest musicians Ry Cooder and Michael Brecker, and Taylor's daughter Sally sings backing vocals on "My Traveling Star" and "Baby Buffalo."

"October Road" will also be available in a special limited-edition package containing a bonus disc featuring three previously released tracks that have never appeared on a Taylor album: "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" from Brecker's "Nearness of You" album, "Benjamin," a composition he arranged for the Mark O'Connor/ Edgar Meyer/Yo-Yo Ma "Appalachian Journey" collaboration and "Sailing to Philadelphia," the title track from Mark Knopfler's second solo album. There is an extra track featuring interviews with Taylor and producer Russ Titelman and behind-the scenes, in-the-studio footage shot during the recording of the album.
