Lyau outruns Rogers
in USO Hawaii 10K


Jonathan Lyau beat Rich Rogers by seven seconds to win the USO Hawaii 10K run at White Plains Beach yesterday.

Lyau finished the race in 32 minutes. Abdeslam Naji came in third 16 seconds after Lyau.

Victoria Chang won the women's race by more than a minute, finishing in 37:20 to beat second place Annie Kawasaki's time of 38:39.

Hawaii Pacific swept the 5K event, with Michel Siul beating Kwesi Cudjoe-Chow by six seconds and Nina Christensen winning by 50 seconds.

Girls getting ready for annual rodeo

The 10th annual All Girls Rodeo is scheduled for Oct. 19 at the Barbers Point Riding Stables.

The event is put on by the Hawaii Women's Rodeo Association and will start at 9 a.m.

Nobriga and Nelson the best on the beach

Chastity Nobriga and Linda Nelson beat Lily Kahumoku and Maja Gustin 20-22, 21-19, 15-12 to win the Aqua Hotels Players Championship on Queen's Beach yesterday.

Jason Salmeri and Steve Li took the men's final by beating Tony Ching and Dorje Djkocic 21-16, 15-21, 15-9.

Grobe among top 50 volleyball players

Iolani senior Jon Grobe is on Volleyball Magazine's Boys Fab 50 list.

Grobe, who has committed to Pepperdine, is ranked No. 35 in the list of players expected to make an impact on college volleyball in the next four years.

Grobe was the only Hawaii player listed, but UH had two recruits on the list.
