Let’s all do the Elevator Shuffle

There's a dance I do almost daily. Sometimes I dance with one person. Sometimes I dance with more than one.

The dance is called the Elevator Shuffle. The way you can tell people want to dance is that they start getting onto an elevator before you leave it.

Let's think about this. If you have a container of Spam musubi and you want to fill it with pork hash, you don't take out one musubi and put in one hash. You take out all of the musubi and you put in all of the hash.

Makes sense to do the same thing with an elevator. But that doesn't seem to occur to everyone.

So the dance begins. You both step to one side. Then you both step to the other side. You repeat as many times as you like.

It's even more fun if there are a bunch of people with you and a bunch of other people who want to rush into the elevator. Step, step, bump, bump. Step, step, bump, bump.

The people who started dancing with you because they were in a hurry probably spent more time getting on the elevator than if they had waited for you and everyone else to leave it in the first place.

Sometimes a slower pace can speed things up.
