The event, being held at the Waipahu High School cafeteria at 94-1211 Farrington Hwy., features daily giveaways, demonstrations, flower and plant sales, and more.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. tonight, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Bonsai bonanza

The Mililani Bonsai Club will present its annual bonsai display, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Town Center of Mililani.

The annual display features a variety of one-of-a-kind bonsai created and nurtured by the club.

Bonsai is the art of training and shaping small trees or shrubs, grown in a shallow container, in such a way as to resemble a full-size tree. A bonsai should give the impression of a naturally grown tree.

The Mililani Bonsai Club is a nonprofit organization of Mililani residents who grow bonsai and are dedicated to the art of bonsai.

Maui plant sale

Maui residents will have the chance to buy plants native to their specific region, from coastal areas to Upcountry, 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 17 at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens.

Many of the species, offered for sale by five local native plant growers, promote water conservation and are rare and endangered Maui trees and shrubs. The growers will be on hand during the sale to answer questions.

Tips on water conservation, xeriscape techniques and water-saving irrigation products also will be available.

The plant sale is sponsored by the Maui Board of Water Supply. Call 808-249-2798 for more information.

Backyard makeover

Win a backyard makeover worth $15,000 and a shot at being on Home & Garden television's "Landscaper's Challenge" by entering the "Celebrate Summer America: Win the Ultimate Backyard Makeover" sweepstakes running through Sept. 30.

Enter by sending a handwritten postcard with full name, address and telephone number to "Win the Ultimate Backyard Makeover" Sweepstakes, P.O. Box 5303, Blair, NE 68009-5303.

"Landscapers Challenge," hosted by Marianne Curan, is an outdoor version of HGTV's "Designer's Challenge." It airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. and features three professional landscape designers who compete for the same project, giving a full presentation to the homeowner, who then chooses which plan he or she likes best.

Viewers pick up tips as they watch the homeowner meet with each landscaper, who then surveys the space and identifies challenges. After the homeowner chooses a plan, the execution of the design follows, ending with the completed project.

One grand-prize winner will be randomly selected to appear on the show and will win the makeover and a Weber Summit 450 Gas Grill valued at $2,600. One hundred first-prize winners will each receive a Weber Genesis gas grill valued at $600.
