2002 Miss Hawaii Teen
Erin Madden, 2002 Miss Hawaii Teen, will preview the fashions she'll wear in the Miss Teen USA Pageant at Salon Du Tea/Colleen Chun in the Courtyard at 5:30 p.m. Friday. She will model competition apparel by Takeo, Jessica McClintock, Eric Chandler, Suzanna Chan, Syl Kop, Edgar San Diego and others. Tickets are $13.95. Call 538-6690 by noon Friday. Tour showcases organic farms
The nonprofit Maui Aloha 'Aina Association is loading up a bus this weekend for a tour of organic farms on Maui's east side.The Organic Farm Tour & Talk, Saturday and Sunday, will visit four farms in Kipahulu, among them the Living Farm, where organic taro is grown.
Buses will pick up passengers at central Maui and Upcountry locations Saturday. "Onboard professionals," including Elaine Ingham of Soil Food Web and Bob Shaffer of Soilculture, will discuss organic farming.
The "Talk" part of the weekend takes place Sunday at Maui Community College, where Ingham and Shaffer will discuss soil biology and chemistry.
Cost for both days is $75 ($55 for seniors and students), which includes breakfast on the bus and lunch at one of the farms Saturday, as well as lunch on Sunday. Call (808) 242-7870.
New leadership
Aloha Harvest, the non-profit organization that delivers leftover restaurant food to the needy, has a new executive director.Christine Chun, former human resources consultant with BCR/Right Management Consultants, takes the helm of the group founded in 1999 as a local chapter of the national food redistribution network.
Aloha Harvest regularly collects perishables from restaurants, hotels and food suppliers and distributes them to 88 social service agencies. For information call 537-6945.
