By Star-Bulletin staff

Representatives of several faith organizations and government agencies will participate in a Hiroshima Commemoration and Peace Service at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Palama.

The Hiroshima Peace Bell monument in front of the Izumo Taishakyo Mission at 215 N. Kukui St. will be the setting of the memorial service marking the anniversary of the U.S. dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima , Japan, in 1945.

Students from Oahu YMCA programs and youngsters from the YMCA in Yokohama, Japan, will drape a lei of 1,001 origami paper cranes on the bell, a replica of the one in Peace Square, Hiroshima.

Participants will ring the bell, which was given to Honolulu by a Hiroshima citizens group, as a symbol of commitment to peace between America and Japan, said the Rev. Julia McKenna-Dubin, chairwoman of the event.
