The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

HEI leads the pack

Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., featured positively Wednesday in a column on the financial Web site TheStreet. com, soared 8.2 percent this week to lead 11 other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. A week earlier, the company announced a 21 percent increase in second-quarter earnings, declared a 62-cents-a-share dividend and received an analyst upgrade. The stock, which yields a 5.8 percent dividend, is up 5.6 percent this year and 8.5 percent on a total-return basis.

Bank of Hawaii Corp., which recently announced it was outsourcing management of its technology systems, gained 5.8 percent.
