Dueling chefs

Six guys with knives will go at it Saturday, the aim being culinary supremacy, which is much less frightening than the alternatives. And you can watch.

Three episodes of a new television show, "Paradise Chef Duel," will be taped at Restaurant Row. The program is modeled after the Japanese cult hit, "Iron Chef," which airs on the Food Network. In fact, Food Network stalwart David Rosengarten will host the "Paradise Chef" competition.

In each show, two local chefs will compete to create the best dishes using a secret ingredient, to be chosen by chef Alan Wong.

Battling will be D.K. Kodama of Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar vs. Russell Siu of 3660 on the Rise, Peter Merriman of Merriman's vs. Philippe Padovani of Padovani's Restaurant & Wine Bar, and Göran Streng of the Hawaii Prince vs. Randall Ishizu of Ihilani Resort & Spa.

Shooting runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a new "Paradise Chef" Duel Kitchen Theater across from Ruth's Chris Steak House. Seating is open to the public.

The program will air Saturdays beginning Aug. 17 on KGMB.
