United and Island Air sign code-sharing pact
United Airlines has begun selling Honolulu-Lanai and Honolulu-Kapalua flights aboard Island Air, the smaller-airport sister of Aloha Airlines.Under a new code-share agreement, eight Island Air flights a day to Lanai are carrying United flight numbers in United's reservations system, as are six flights to the Kapalua/West Maui airport.
Island Air has a fleet of de Havilland Dash 8 aircraft, each carrying up to 37 passengers.
First Hawaiian puts up $10,000 for city event
First Hawaiian Bank is spending $10,000 to sponsor this weekend's Sunset on the Beach event in Waikiki."We've just committed for this weekend at this point and we'll see about the future," bank spokesman Gerry Keir said.
The popular event, which has come under criticism due to its expense to the city, cost $697,511.69, or an average of $24,052.12, for 29 programs during the past fiscal year that ended June 30.
"The city has done a great job of getting these wonderful events up and running and now we're pleased to play our part in keeping Sunset on the Beach going with private funding," said Walter A. Dods Jr., chairman and chief executive of First Hawaiian Bank.
This weekend's movies, which begin at 7:30 p.m. each day, are "Stuart Little" on Saturday and "Shanghai Noon" set for Sunday. Food booths open at 4 p.m. each day and entertainment starts at 5 p.m.

Isle of Capri sells site to Boyd, closing casino
JACKSON, Miss. >> Boyd Gaming Corp., which conducts travel packages from Hawaii to Las Vegas, said Monday it has purchased Isle of Capri Casinos Inc.'s Tunica property for $7.5 million.Boyd will take over Isle's 225 hotel rooms and two theaters in Tunica, but has no plans to operate the casino.
Biloxi, Miss.-based Isle gave its 400 employees in Tunica their 60-day notice Monday. The company announced plans in March to sell its Tunica and Las Vegas casinos because they were not performing well.
Boyd owns and operates 12 gaming properties in Nevada, Mississippi, Illinois, Indiana and Louisiana as well as Hawaiian travel agency Vacations Hawaii.
IBM says it will buy PwC Consulting
NEW YORK >> Technology giant IBM Corp. said yesterday that it will buy the consulting and technology services arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers for $3.5 billion in cash and stock.The consulting arm, PwC Consulting, will join IBM's giant Global Services unit, which has overtaken the company's hardware division as its largest revenue earner.
The acquisition, subject to approval of federal regulators and local PwC partners, will add some 30,000 new employees to the division that already counts about half of IBM's approximately 320,000 workers.
In a prepared release, both companies said they expected the deal to be concluded around the end of the third quarter.
PwC Consulting is headed by Greg Brenneman, who earlier this year unsuccessfully attempted to merge Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines.
Quarterly profit triples at Hearst-Argyle TV
NEW YORK >> Hearst-Argyle Television Inc.'s second-quarter profit more than tripled as the broadcaster's revenue increased.Bloomberg News reported the company's net income rose to $30.8 million, or 33 cents a share, from $9.7 million, or 10 cents, a year earlier. Per-share results reflect preferred dividends of $355,000 in both periods. The average profit estimate of analysts polled by Thomson First Call was 30 cents.
