Ross Birch has been appointed the new head golf professional at the Waikoloa Beach Resort's championship Beach Course.

"Ross' vast knowledge of golf, strong people skills and experience running golf tournaments make him a natural fit for this position," Waikoloa director of golf operations Dave Pritchett said. "Over the last 12 years Ross has proven to be an asset to Waikoloa and our award winning golf program."

Birch served as the operations manager at the Waikoloa Kings' Course prior to his promotion.

He was also the golf sales manager for the Kings' Course and served as tournament director for this season's LPGA event, won by Annika Sorenstam.

George Fazio course at Turtle Bay open for play

The George Fazio Course at the Turtle Bay Resort has reopened all 18 of its holes and is open for play.

The back nine was taken out of play in the early 1990s but has been restored, including realigned 13th and 14th holes.

"Our goal has been to restore this revered course to its full 18 holes, and to a routing as close as possible to the original Fazio design," said Turtle Bay director of golf Dennis Rose.
