"I think it's good she's getting involved in helping the community," Waihee the trustee said of his sibling.
In other state House races, former legislator Bob Herkes is trying for a comeback while his ex-wife, Maralyn Herkes, is a candidate for another House seat. Also, longtime state Rep. Cynthia Thielen is being joined in the political arena by her daughter, Laura Thielen, who is running for the state Board of Education.
House candidate Tulasi Gabbard-Tamayo is joined by her father, Mike Gabbard, chairman of the Alliance for Traditional Marriage and Values, who is a candidate for the Honolulu City Council. Carol Gabbard, Mike's wife, is a member of the Board of Education.
Also running for the council is Pam Witty-Oakland, the mother-in-law of state Sen. Suzanne Chun Oakland, who is seeking re-election.
Meanwhile, the Golojuch family of Makakilo has fielded a father-son team. Michael Golojuch Jr. is a Republican state House candidate for Makakilo/Kapolei, while his father, Michael Golojuch, is running for the Honolulu City Council.
