Metzger-Wong meets
its match in France

Punahou products Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong were swept off the beach by their biggest rivals yesterday at the French Grand Slam at Marseille, France.

Metzger-Wong lost to Argentina's Baracetti and Conde 21-14, 21-19 in just 52 minutes to drop out in the quarterfinals. The two teams were tangling for the ninth time and Baracetti-Conde avenged a three-set loss last Sunday in Montreal. Baracetti and Conde lead the series 7-2

Bown blasts Thailand: Heather Bown scored a match-high 18 points as the USA defeated Thailand 25-17, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20 in the FIVB Grand Prix.

The former Wahine pounded 13 kills, blocked four balls and fired an ace.

Von Arnswaldt to have his say at QB Club

Retiring Kaiser athletics director Bill Von Arnswaldt will speak at the Honolulu Quarterback Club at noon tomorrow.

Jim Donovan, the UH associate athletics director who is leaving the school to head the ConAgra Foods Hawaii Bowl, and Tony Ramos of Kamehameha Schools will also speak.
