EAST OAHUHPD seeks suspect in Waialae Beach theft

Police are searching for a man in his early 20s who robbed two men at gunpoint at Waialae Beach Park.

The suspect is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, slim build, wearing a red bandana on his head and a blue T-shirt and blue pants, police said.

The men, ages 22 and 23, were sitting at tables near the restroom at the park at about 3 a.m. yesterday when a suspect with a gun demanded their watches and a cell phone.

Firefighters save man from Portlock sea cliff

Firefighters rescued a 35-year-old man yesterday off a ledge of a cliff in Portlock at about 4 p.m. yesterday.

The man told fire officials he had jumped off the cliff into the water at a spot at the end of Lumahai Street known as "Acapulcos."

The Honolulu Fire Department received a call at 3:46 p.m., but when rescuers arrived, the man had already managed to make it back onto a ledge 10 to 12 feet above the water, fire Capt. Kenison Tejada said.

Tejada speculates a surge of water came in lifting him up and he managed to grab onto the rocky shelf.

The man suffered head, rib and hand injuries, Tejada said.

Fire rescuers and a paramedic hiked around the narrow ledge with a basket that was used to airlift the man out by helicopter. He was taken by helicopter to the Queen's Medical Center.
