NEW JOBS

>> Darrel Hoke has joined Kamehameha schools as director of internal audit. He will oversee the plan to transition a majority of the organization's internal audit functions in-house. Hoke was most recently senior vice president of management reporting at Bank of Hawaii and a certified public accountant with nearly 15 years of experience in the finance and auditing fields. Joseph Ferreira Jr. also joined Kamehameha, as director of information technology. He is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the division including resources, organizational structure and its processes to support and deliver relevant technology. Prior to joining Kamehameha, he was senior director of information technology at Hawaiian Airlines. He has more than 10 years of experience in technology management and software development.

>> James F. Hawkins has joined Bank of Hawaii as senior vice president and consumer lending division manager. He manages all consumer lending products and activities, including third party auto loans from car dealer centers, home equity and loans originated through the branch network. He also oversees collection activities. Hawkins has more than 30 years experience in the lending business, was a consultant with Taran-Hawkins and an executive vice president of Consumer Lending at Bank One Corporation in Milwaukee, Wis. Kate Patterson has joined Bank of Hawaii as senior vice president and chief information security officer. She will be developing and directing the information security program for Bankoh, including risk awareness and assessment processes. Prior to joining Bank of Hawaii, Patterson served in information security management positions at Bank of America in Concord, Calif. She also served more than 15 years in the London, England branch of Bank of America.

>>David Lau has been appointed outlet manager for Ship's Tavern at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. Audrey Kamiya has joined the Surfrider's Banyan Veranda as outlet manager. Shari Tachibana is now outlet manager at Pikake Terrace, Lounge & Room Service. Ted Teruya has been named outlet manager at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani's Momoyama Restaurant. And Jennie Allen has been appointed outlet manager to Sheraton's Princess Food Court.

PROMOTIONS

>> Barbara A. Kahana was named vice president and chief information officer for the Hawaii Health Systems Corp. She will be responsible fostering the development of all information system activities and initiatives. She was previously director of application service for Hawaii Health Systems.

>> The Oceanic Institute has promoted Robin Shields to finfish program manager. He will manage the institute's research on the aquaculture of marine food and ornamental fish. Shields joined the Oceanic Institute in 2000 as a research scientist.

>> Harry J. Byerly has been appointed to associate vice president and director of the Center for Graduate Studies at Hawaii Pacific University. Byerly, who was previously assistant dean and director, oversees the department, in addition to graduate marketing and recruiting efforts. he joined HPU in 1997.

>>Laser Eye Center of Hawaii has appointed Jacqueline Ueda director of laser vision services. She will oversee the clinical department. She has been with Laser Eye since 1998 and previously worked in general ophthalmology for more than 10 years specializing in glaucoma, cataracts and refractive surgery.

>> Carol A. N. Marx has been promoted to vice president and production manager of the residential real estate division at First Hawaiian Bank. She joined First Hawaiian in 1988 as a branch manager.

>>Ruth E. King has been named general manager of Dixie Grill Aiea. She joined the company in 2001 as a manager.

>> Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties has promoted Lael Wheeler to broker In charge of its Kahala Office. She was most recently assistant broker In charge of Coldwell Banker's Kapiolani Office. In her new position, Wheeler is responsible for strategic planning, financial management, marketing strategies and personnel support and development for the Kahala Office. She has worked in the real estate industry since 1993.

RECOGNITION

>> Charles H. Ridings was awarded Maui's Outstanding Executive Director of a Nonprofit Organization for 2002 at the J. Walter Cameron Center's annual ceremonial dinner. Ridings is the executive director of Maui Economic Concerns of the Community Inc./Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center. Keith Pocock, executive director of the Maui Humane Society, was honored as a nominee. The award was established in 1997 by Cameron Center's Long Range Planning Committee to honor executive directors of nonprofit organizations.
