Hawaii surfers Kalani Robb and Shane Dorian advanced to the third round of the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, yesterday.

Robb beat Marcelo Nunez of Brazil easily, outriding him 8.25-1.50 on the first wave on his way to a 21.9-9.9 win. Robb caught seven waves to Nunes' four and outscored Nunes' highest score on four of them.

Things did not come so easy for Dorian, who beat Maz Quinn of New Zealand 18.4-16.5 by scoring when he needed to.

Peterson Rosa scored a convincing victory over fellow Brazilian Guilherme Herdy to advance to round three of the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, yesterday.

Quinn got his only lead over Dorian by catching three of the first four waves, but Dorian answered Quinn's 7.75 with a 7.0 then hit a 6.65 on his last wave after Quinn missed on his next two attempts. Quinn needed a 5.56 on his last ride but was given a 5.10 with just five seconds left.

"It took a while to get a good score, but I just kept trying to better my previous rides," explained Dorian. "It was really tight. Kelly (Slater) was out there telling me where to sit. He was cheering me on, wanting me to win, and in the end I did so I'm happy. It's good to have Kelly back on tour."

Slater scored the best ride of the day when he scored a 9.0 to beat Russell Winter.

Robb will take on Beau Emerton of Australia in the third round while Dorian will take on Australian Joel Parkinson, who scored 24.60 points in round two.
