its reptiles and amphibians

Children got up close and personal yesterday with reptiles and amphibians during a special program at the Hawaii Nature Center in Makiki. Among those who got to look at a bullfrog were, from left, Riker Kasamoto, Bryce Kasamoto and Jessica Kasamoto. Bryce and Jessica are brother and sister, while Riker is a cousin.

Kyom Duk Chong, foreground, and her granddaughter Sheryl Sato placed flowers and prayed Friday afternoon at the grave site of Chong's father at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. In observance of the Obon season, potted plants and artificial flowers will be allowed at the cemetery through Aug. 16.
