Former UH receiver
Branch joins Islanders

The Hawaiian Islanders added another experienced pro football player yesterday.

Darrick Branch, the former University of Hawaii receiver, was assigned by arenafootball2 to the Islanders.

Branch, a 6-foot, 195-pounder, played two games this year for the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League, but was released last week.

He also spent three seasons, 1999-2001, with the Buffalo Destroyers of the Arena Football League.

Branch played for the Rainbows from 1989-92 and graduated from UH in 1993. He was drafted in the eighth round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he was released and signed with the Toronto Argonauts.

He spent three years with Toronto and was invited to the San Francisco 49ers' training camp.

In addition, Branch was on the Denver Broncos' practice roster in 1996 and 1997 and played for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe in 1998.

Branch will join the Islanders in Little Rock, Ark., today. The Islanders (3-10) play the Arkansas Twisters (8-5) tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Hawaii time.

Toyama and Wilson win in Callaway

Toyama, from Kaneohe and the current Manoa Cup Champion, fired his second consecutive even par 72 for a 144 total, two strokes better than Hilo's Gabriel Wilson.

Amanda Wilson, also from Hilo, followed her first-round 71 with a 77 yesterday. Her 148 total was five strokes better than runners-up Stephanie Kono of Honolulu and Lehua Wise of Lihue.
