Cheers for
the swimsuit shoot

THE CHEERLEADERS are coming! The cheerleaders are coming! The lovely Oakland Raiderettes are set to arrive on Oahu this weekend to take swimsuit shots for their 2003 calendar, called "Football's Fabulous Females." The Turtle Bay Resort will serve as a backdrop for the babes, and photographer Jon Abeyta has the envious task of capturing the ladies gallivanting around in bathing suits.

ESPN also plans to send a pair of film crews to follow the Raiderettes around while they're here. One crew from the sports network will film "The Making of the Raiderette Calendar" for future release to video, while a second will continue shooting a two-hour documentary on the Raiderettes scheduled to air July 23 and 30 on ESPN. The ladies should be here through next Friday, so be sure to go "sightseeing" at Turtle Bay sometime soon ...

SPEAKING OF THE North Shore, make plans to take in some Hawaiian music tomorrow night in Haleiwa. The Typical Hawaiians are set to invade Haleiwa Joe's in support of their latest release, "Keep It Together," starting at 10:30 p.m. Interesting tidbit about these not-so-typical guys: Thomson Enos, Taz Vegas and Bruce Zulueta arranged and produced every song on the album, which sounds like it was made to be performed live on stage -- not just on your CD player.

Haleiwa Joe's is located at 66-011 Kamehameha Hwy. on the North Shore. If you're concerned about driving distance, bring a designated driver along or find a friend on that side who will let you crash at their place for the night. Five bucks gets you in the door; call 637-8005 for more information and directions ...

THINK YOU HAVE what it takes to run a successful mobile disco business? Take the first step toward becoming the party promoter you've always wanted to be and get down to the Universal DJ School's "Mobile DJ Seminar" on Sunday. Kutmaster Spaz will team up with guest speakers David Louis (Dynamic Sounds), Marino Regalado (Ninja Entertainment) and John Bidell (JMB Productions) for the two-hour seminar, which begins at 3 p.m.

Universal DJ School is located at 94-547 Ukee St., No. 110. While there's no cost to attend the seminar, you must RSVP by tomorrow in order to attend. Call 680-9590 for details ...
