A native plant workshop, "Native Plants in Public Places: Hawaii's Unique Biological Heritage," will be held July 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki.

The workshop is sponsored by the UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. The registration fee is $100, but will increase to $125 for forms postmarked after Saturday's deadline.

Some of the 282 endangered and threatened Native Hawaiian plant species will be on display.

Featured speakers include experts such as Paul Weissich, former director of the Honolulu Botanic Gardens; Dr. Gregory Koob, a botanist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Dennis Kim, an award-winning landscape architect and planning consultant.

The workshop is designed for professional garden designers, clubs, and other interested persons.
