Fourth bashes
fit your budget

WITH THE Fourth of July coming up Thursday, I thought I'd share a few of the parties that have shown up on my radar -- one for the baller out there, another for the person watching their pennies and an invitation-only bash at one of the best vantage points for fireworks that night ...

If you've got the scrips, I'd suggest the "Starlet Fireworks & Cocktail Cruise" offered by Paradise Cruises out of Kewalo Basin. Thursday night's 90-minute trip departs at 7:45 p.m. to provide a fantastic view of the Magic Island fireworks show from the open ocean. Tickets for the 21-and-over party are $30; call 983-7827 or visit www.paradisecruises.com.

Does the thought of spending $60 for a date make you say "whoa"? Kincaid's in the Ward Warehouse might be a better choice for you. The restaurant celebrates this year with the music of eight0eight and radio station 93-1 the Q. Dig into the $9.93 pupu buffet and suck up a few 93-cent drafts, and you'll forget all about the fireworks outside.

A final suggestion for the Fourth is the Ward Entertainment Center on the rooftop of Dave and Buster's. Better flex those dialing fingers, though; the only way into this party is to listen to 1043 XME. The radio station has D&B's entire rooftop bar to itself, and only those with an "XIP" pass get in. Then again, the view from D&B's roof might be worth all that frantic finger-work ...

ALL THOSE MOVING trucks outside Blue Tropix on Sunday weren't taking stuff out of the nightspot. Workers were busy taking equipment inside, where Hoku Award-winning recording artist Fiji was on hand to film a video for his album "Transition."

The director for last weekend's project was Curtis Fuqua, younger brother of big-time movie director Antoine Fuqua. The older Fuqua brother is also in town at the moment, wrapping up duties as director of the Bruce Willis flick being filmed here ...

AND THE CONCERTS keep on coming this summer -- hope you've been saving your money. Tickets go on sale Saturday morning for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who have agreed to play the Blaisdell July 31, and $45 gets you in to see Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante and Chad Smith. The Chili Peppers' latest release, "By the Way," is scheduled to appear in stores a week from today ...
