Hawaii sails for another
outrigger canoe crown

Team Hawaii will seek its fifth consecutive men's title today in the Liberty World Challenge outrigger canoe race, a 14-mile event in New York Harbor.

Paddling for Hawaii are James Foti, John Foti, Mike Judd, Thiebert Lusia'a, Keali'i Pa'aina and Walter Guild, team captain and manager.

Approximately 100 teams from nine countries are participating.

Hawaii team ousted in narrow soccer loss

The Honolulu Soccer Club Bulls 86 Red Under-16 girls team was eliminated in the semifinal round of the USYS Snickers Region IV Tournament yesterday at Salt Lake City.

The Bulls lost to the Golden Eagles from Arizona, 1-0, on a goal midway through the second half.

"To be fair, I think the Eagles are the best team here. We came out a little bit apprehensive, but we stayed with our game plan well," said Bulls coach Phil Neddo.

He said the turning point came when Bulls defender Lisa Lerud left the match with a dislocated shoulder.

The Bulls 84 Red team lost a penalty kick shootout to Coeur d' Alene Sting (Idaho), 4-3, to complete a protested semifinal-round match from Thursday.

Hemmings to unveil proposal at QB Club

Senator Fred Hemmings will be the main speaker at Monday's Honolulu Quarterback Club meeting at the Padoga Restaurant.

Hemmings will unveil a proposal to create a College of Sports at the University of Hawaii.

Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon.

Polo on tap in Waimanalo

The USPA Officers Cup polo match is on tap at the Honolulu Polo Club's Waimanalo Field tomorrow.

The gates open at 1 p.m. The game starts at 2:30 p.m. General admission is $3 with children under 12 free.
