Busy Viloria returns
to ring next weekWaipahu flyweight Brian Viloria will take on Hugo Alberto Alvarez on the undercard of the Michael Grant-Thomas Williams heavyweight bout at the Menominee Casino in Kenosha, Wis., July 5.
"Brian is pretty hot right now," manager Gary Gittelsohn said. "I want to keep him active."
Staying active is all Gittelsohn figures Viloria will get out of Alvarez, who has had only two professional fights but won both of them.
"He is not in Brian's league," Gittelsohn said. "This is more of a 'keep busy' fight against a softer opponent."
Viloria's new World Boxing Council Youth title will not be on the line in the eight-round fight because Gittelsohn says Alvarez doesn't qualify for it.
Viloria's last fight -- a fifth-round technical knockout of Franky Soto -- was June 19, leaving him only 16 days between contests. He took 14 days off between his third and fourth fights and wound up being involved in one of his only two decisions, a four-round affair over Mike Thomas.
