Soccer mom and dad
are getting kicks

THE Jack Sullivan family, sometimes known as the Leprechauns, are in a state of euphoria. To begin with, Sullivan is V.P. of the U.S. Soccer Federation, Hawaii Soccer Association, Amateur Division, and while he's a soccer nut even when competition is among 6-year-olds at Kahala Park, he's totally whack-o now, what with the U.S. team still alive in World Cup Competition. And now all his kids are coming home to roost on Sunday, when he and wife Mary K. celebrate their 40th anniversary. Oldest son Kevin is returning from Tokyo to marry Kazumi Watanabe of Japan the same day. Daughter Kathleen, in keeping with her Irish heritage being born on March 17, and husband Brent Gaines are flying in from Seattle. Son Kiley is in from the University of Washington and from San Mateo, daughter Colleen and hubby Derek Vroom fly in with sons Brendan and Cody. But if a soccer game comes on, all the celebrating will have to be scheduled around it ...

The Jones girl

CONTINUING to ride a wave of success is Hawaii's Malia Jones. She'll be appearing on the ABC-TV special "Aloha Hollywood" Friday. Professional surfer and model Jones is involved in promotion and publicity for what Disney hopes will be its summer blockbuster, "Lilo and Stitch," featuring the voices of Isle actors Tia Carrere and Jason Scott Lee. Jones also stars in the Sheryl Crow music video, "Soak Up the Sun" from Crow's #1 album, "C'mon C'mon." Malia also stars in her own American Express commercial, filmed entirely in Hawaii. It premiered during the NBA finals telecast on NBC. You don't think Jones is hot? She's been in hundreds of magazines, including Sports Illustrated. People named her "One of the 50 most beautiful people in the world" and Esquire voted her "One of America's 10 Sexiest Athletes." No argument here ...

We gather together

MEANWHILE Sports Illustrated Women has come out with a large list of the sexiest men in sports. New photograph director Geraldine Agoncillo, formerly with Vanity Fair and Talk magazines, selected a photo of a twosome with Hawaii ties for the cover -- Surfer Laird Hamilton and beach volleyball phenom Gabrielle Reece. Question: Didn't those two break up? You'd think from looking at the cover of SIW that they're back together ...

Spa Wars

During my weekend on Maui, just concluded, alas, I managed to visit the spas at both the Four Seasons (Travel Magazine named it #1 in the country) and the next door Grand Wailea. It's a toss up. Both have lots of attention getting and relaxing and health restoring facilities. The Grand Wailea has whirlpool baths, steam and sauna rooms. The Four Seasons not only has similar relaxants, but a library for tea or juice, newspapers, magazines and books while waiting for your therapist ...

Bosom buddies: Dwayne Johnson -- "The Rock" -- and Bruce Willis have been buddying together, attending Henry Kapono's birthday bash. They so enjoyed themselves they returned the next night for dinner. I can't see throwing over Demi Moore for The Rock, but what do I know? ...
