Buffanblu beach battleThey upset the top-seeded team of Buffanblu graduates Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong at the AVP Michelob Light Santa Barbara Open.
Lambert and LeGrande knocked off Metzger and Wong 21-15, 23-21, 15-13 in the quarterfinals.
Former University of Hawaii player Albert Hanneman, who won last week at Hermosa Beach, was eliminated along with partner Jeff Nygaard. One of their losses was against three-time Olympic gold medalist Karch Kiraly and his partner, Brent Doble.
Also, Alika Williams of Hilo and Scott Wong, the brother of Kevin, were on teams that were eliminated yesterday.
Another team with Hawaii ties lost in the women's competition. Pat Keller and Marla O'Hara defeated Tanya Fuamatu (Waipahu, Hawaii Pacific) and Heidi Ilustre (University of Hawaii), 21-10, 21-18.
Fuamatu-Ilustre recovered to win two losers' bracket matches before being eliminated by Carrie Busch and Leanne Schuster, 21-18, 21-14.
Also, Lia Young of Honolulu teamed with Gracie Santana-Baeni, but they lost both matches and were eliminated.
Semifinals and finals are today. Lambert and LeGrande play Kiraly and Doble, while Eduardo Bacil and Frederico Souza meet Eric Fonoimoana and Dax Holdren in the other semi.
Metzger and Wong start the day alive in the losers' bracket.
The women's semis match Holly McPeak-Elaine Youngs against Lisa Arce-Linda Hanley and the team of Annet Davis and Jennifer Johnson Jordan plays Angie Akers-Jen Pavley.
Meanwhile, in Berlin, a Punahou and UH alum, Sean Scott and partner Todd Rogers placed ninth representing the U.S. in an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event.
Scott and Rodgers were second in pool play, but were ousted 21-19, 21-12 by Cubans Francisco Alvarez and Juan Rosell.
Raiola, Jones and Smith teaching at football camp
The Leo Goeas Foundation will be holding its annual football camp Monday through Wednesday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the St. Louis School football field.The camp involves specific O-line drills and latest techniques as taught by current professional and collegiate athletes.
Dominic Raiola, Marvel Smith, Mike Cavanaugh and Levi Jones are expected to be four of the many presenters.
