The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Maui Land & Pine rebounds

Maui Land & Pineapple Co., the second-worst performing stock this year among Hawaii's publicly traded companies, turned the tables this week as it jumped 5.3 percent to take runner-up honors in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The companies' shares, down 15.6 percent in 2002, rose $1.01 over the five days to close yesterday at $20.26.

The best performance was posted by Aquasearch Inc., which gained one-half cent for the week to end up 7.1 percent at 7.5 cents. The company, which is in Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy, saw its shares reach their highest close since hitting that same mark on March 19.

Hawaiian Airlines Inc., whose stock got a boost last week when it announced it would repurchase about 17 percent of its outstanding shares, was the worst performer, slipping 1.1 percent.
