Give some blood,
get free ice cream

Star-Bulletin staff

Starting Saturday and lasting through June 30, blood donors will receive a pint of ice cream as part of a "Give a Pint, Get a Pint" promotion between Blood Bank of Hawaii and Baskin-Robbins Hawaii.

Donors will receive a coupon when they visit the Blood Bank of Hawaii's donor centers at 2043 Dillingham Blvd. and 126 Queen St., or at any blood-drive sites.

The coupon may be redeemed for one pint of ice cream at participating Baskin-Robbins Hawaii locations until December 2003.

The donation process, which takes about an hour, involves some paperwork, a confidential interview and a mini-physical. Actual collection of blood takes five to eight minutes.

About 60 percent of Hawaii residents will need blood, according to the Blood Bank, but only 2 percent of the eligible population donates blood.

Donors must be in good health, age 18 or older, weigh 110 pounds or more and present valid photo identification.

To make an appointment, set up a blood drive or get more information, call 845-9966 or visit www.bbh.org. Neighbor island residents can call 800-372-9966.
