Go Jimmy Go’s summer tour
kicks off with show tomorrow

YOU'VE NOW HAD nine days to listen, absorb and digest the latest offering from local boys Go Jimmy Go. "Soul Arrival" began showing up in record stores nationwide last Tuesday, and the guys plan to tear the roof off the Hawaiian Hut tomorrow starting at 10 p.m.

Ooklah the Moc opens the album release party, which is also a send-off for the band as they prepare for a string of West Coast dates on the Vans Warped Tour. Tickets for the Friday night festivities are $10 for 18- to 20-year-olds, $8 for 21 and over. Call 941-5205 for more information ...

SPEAKING OF Go Jimmy Go and the Vans Warped Tour, local radio station Lava Rock 105.9 is giving its listeners a rare opportunity to go on tour with the band. We're not just talking about free tickets or a backstage meet-and-greet session here. Next Wednesday, morning show jock Johnny Miro will give one lucky contest qualifier the chance to travel with the band to Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Francisco for the California leg of the Warped Tour. Listen to Lava Rock for more details on how to get qualified ...

YOU MAY HAVE also noticed some changes at another local radio station recently. 104.3 KXME-FM has dropped the "Xtreme" label and is now calling itself "1043 XME, Hawaii's No. 1 Hit Music Station." I guess having two listeners run naked through downtown last week was a little too extreme for the tastes of station executives.

The switch came at 5 a.m. Monday morning, approximately five years after the first Xtreme Radio stickers bombarded Oahu's Windward side. For the past few days, they've been jamming lots of music with few interruptions -- a somewhat refreshing change for a commercial radio station. I've even been ignoring my CD changer in the ride after being surprised by some of the tracks getting airplay ...

THIS WEEKEND, make plans to carpool to the Leeward side and support Moon, John and Jerome as they kick off the new "Makaha Sons Summer Series" at the Makaha Resort. The Makaha Sons plan to return again in August and September for another two concerts. Two shows will be offered tomorrow: a dinner show from 6 to 8 p.m. and a cocktail show at 9 p.m.

Also scheduled to make a guest appearance this month at the "Summer Series" is Del Beazley. Tickets are $32 for the dinner show, which features prime rib and a seafood buffet. If that's a little steep, check out the cocktail show for $15 instead. Call 695-7504 for information and directions ...

ALOHA TOWER MARKETPLACE should go off Saturday night with a pair of parties guaranteed to be bumping around 11 p.m. or so. Milo Shade and Thick Tubes will perform at Waterfront Cafe and Cabaret that night to mark the start of Mass Appeal's "Summer Surf Trilogy 2002." Doors open at 10 p.m. Tons of giveaways at this one: The first 50 people through the door get a free beach towel, someone leaves the club with a free surfboard every week, and interisland air fare for two will be given away as well. DJ Galmiche brings the wax to keep things moving between sets. Call 566-0044.

Around the corner at Don Ho's Island Grill, Natural Vibes headlines the first "e808.com Summer Session" for the 18-and-over crowd. Grab a $6 pitcher or a $4 kava shot, and party with the guys from e808.com and Mellow Mood Entertainment. If the line is too long this week, no worries; Ho'onu'a will play next Saturday's session ...

WITH FATHER'S DAY coming up this weekend, why not take the old man out for brunch and make him laugh his okole off in the process? Island Rhythm 98.5 morning duo Lanai and Augie will host a Father's Day brunch at the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel, and the always entertaining Kapena will provide a soundtrack for the meal. Tickets for the all-you-can-eat local and seafood buffet are $44.50 for adults and $22.25 for kids ages 6 through 15. Keiki 5 and under eat free. Call 921-5523 to make reservations ...
