Secrets to Success

BY JOHN-PAUL COLE MICEK

How to get what you
want ... every time

Are you really getting all that you really want out of your job? Your business? Your life? If you want to achieve more, there is a simple way to make it happen -- consistently.

Before we get to the success secret that can help you make this happen, do a quick exercise. For the next five seconds, DO NOT think about a blue hippopotamus!

What did you just think about? There you are picturing a big, blue hippo, clear as day! Why would I ask you to NOT think about a blue hippo? And what does this have to do with you getting what you really want? This exercise is meant to illustrate one of the most powerful success secrets. What you think about will control your focus. And what you consistently focus on will program your subconscious mind to make it a reality in your life.

Even when you're "not supposed" to be thinking about a blue hippo, your mind cannot help but immediately focus on the words and formulate a picture of a blue hippo -- even if the image doesn't exist! Your mind will create a mental picture of the object of your focus and will automatically move you in that direction. Your mind does not process the "do" or "do not" part. It just focuses on the data you are feeding it and processes it to achieve whatever "picture" you have provided. This principle is the root cause of why many people produce the very thing they say they don't want.

Here's another illustration of the way this principle works. Think of someone you know who you would define as pessimistic. What is consistently coming out of his/her mouth? Do you often hear complaints about obstacles in the way of his/her dreams? Or do you hear him/her passionately talking about opportunities? Now ask yourself what is this person's level of success? What about happiness? What this person consistently focuses on is most likely what you see manifested in his/her life.

This is not a "hocus pocus" concept. This is a proven psychological principle that cracks the mental code to success and unlocks your full potential in reaching your goals.

So how can controlling and directing your focus ensure your success? Focus is the ultimate power that can change the way you think, the way you feel and what action you take at any moment. What you focus on determines your results in every business transaction. When you change your focus, you literally change your life.

What can you do today to begin to control your focus? The primary tool to determining your results is "asking yourself the right questions." If you change the questions you ask yourself, you'll change the results you are getting. For example, when you go on a sales call or are attending a networking event you can ask yourself beforehand "What is the outcome I am seeking from this meeting?" (What is my target?) "What is my purpose in achieving this outcome?" (Why do I really want it?) And finally, "What specific actions must I take to make this outcome a reality?"

Answering these questions before a sales consultation or event would give you a clear picture of what you really want. If you give 100-percent to this process you will re-shape your focus in an amazing way and produce extraordinary results. As with every success secret, the more effort you put in to the process, the more substantial your results.

If you would like to really jump ahead, I can share a simple five-step system with you that you can apply every day to change your focus (and your results) regarding any challenge in three minutes or less. This process can be used on small challenges in your daily life or major projects. Send me an e-mail and I'll be sure you receive access to this system to accelerate your success!
