The following is a preview of movies opening this weekend: Preview
"The Bourne Identity" >> Matt Damon takes on his first action role as an amnesiac on the run in this adaptation of Robert Ludlum's 1980 bestseller directed by Doug Liman ("Go" and "Swingers"). Set against dramatic backdrops in the Czech Republic, Italy and France, Damon's character finds out he possesses a range of extraordinary talents in fighting, linguistic skills and self-defense while being pursued by assassins. On his desperate search for his true identity, he's helped by a troubled cohort (Franka Potente of "Run Lola Run" fame) (PG-13).
"Scooby-Doo" >> The goofy Great Dane and his gang of the 1969 Hanna-Barbera cartoon series finally hit the big screen, as the CGI-animated hound and Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Velma (Linda Cardellini) and Scooby's buddy Shaggy (an uncanny look and performance by Matthew Lillard) get back together to take on the nefarious Mondavarious (Rowan Atkinson), the owner of the Spooky Island amusement park (PG).
"Windtalkers" >> John Woo's World War II epic re-creation of the U.S. attack on the Japanese stronghold on the island of Saipan, as seen through the growing spiritual bond between a freshly recruited Navajo "code talker" (Adam Beach) and his scarred Marine protector (Nicolas Cage) (R).
