[THE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF HAWAIIAN LIFE]

art
Paul Haraguchi of Honolulu photographed daughter Faye and wife Rose outside the Museum of Japanese Emigration to Hawaii at Oshima island off Yamaguchi prefecture, Honshu, Japan. "There aren't many places where you see the Hawaiian flag flying officially with another country's flag," Haraguchi noted. "The museum has displays of how the emigrants lived and worked at the plantations. This museum was one of the highlights of this tour for us because we saw a place memorializing the hardy pioneers who were the foundation of the Japanese living in Hawaii now."

"The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life in the Universe" is just that: We're looking for evidence of Hawaiiana everywhere but Hawaii.
