Hearings set to discuss
size limits on caught fish

The state plans to fix rules so that fish
will grow to maturity before being caught

The Department of Land and Natural Resources will hold public hearings statewide in June and July about changing the legal minimum sizes of fishes that the public may take.

The department plans to amend state rules so that fish grow to maturity and be able to reproduce before being caught.

The hearings schedule is:

>> Molokai -- Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Kaunakakai Elementary School Cafeteria, Kaunakakai.
>> Lanai -- Tuesday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lanai Public Library, Lanai City.
>> West Hawaii -- Tuesday, June 25, at 7 p.m. in the Kealakehe High School Cafeteria in Kailua-Kona.
>> East Hawaii -- Thursday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hilo High School Cafeteria.
>> Kauai -- Tuesday, July 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the Wilcox Elementary School Auditorium, Ehime.
>> Maui -- Tuesday, July 9, at 6 p.m. in the Lihikai School Cafeteria in Wailuku, Maui.
>> Oahu -- Thursday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln School Cafeteria.
>> Leeward Oahu -- Tuesday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Waianae Public Library.

Additional information or a copy of the proposed rule changes can be mailed at no charge upon request or can be seen on the DLNR Web site at www.state.hi.us/dlnr/dar.

Written testimony will be accepted until July 31 at the Division of Aquatic Resources, 1151 Punchbowl St., Room 330, Honolulu, HI 96813.

Disabled individuals with special needs who are planning to attend a public hearing or meeting are asked to contact the Division of Aquatic Resources at least three days in advance of the hearing for accommodation by calling 587-0100 (voice or TDD) in Honolulu.
