Famous Amos kicks off summer publishing course
Wally "Famous" Amos will lead the list of presenters as the Hawaii Book Publishers Association presents its annual one-day course "How to Get Published in Hawaii" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 22 at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Amos will discuss his latest book, "The Cookie Never Crumbles: Inspirational Recipes for Everyday Living," and his experiences in dealing with publishers over the years.The popular course will also feature industry professionals from Hawaii who will discuss the vital aspects of getting published, including how to submit a manuscript and find a publisher, get a publishing contract, work with a designer, and market and distribute. An authors panel will cap the course. There will be plenty of time for questions and interaction during the day.
The cost for the class is $75.

Dad's special day is June 16:Auntie Pasto's: Beretania and Kapahulu restaurants will offer specials of crab and spinach ravioli in sherry cream sauce ($16.50), Filet con Gorgonzola ($18.50) and double chocolate bread pudding with whiskey sauce ($5.50). Joe Benziger of Benziger Family Wineries hosts a four-course dinner, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Indigo Eurasian Cuisine.Chef Glenn Chu's menu includes Grilled Hawaiian Plantations Whole Shrimp with Kaffir Lime (with 2000 Benziger Carneros Chardonnay), Chilled ginger Mint Moi Gravlax (1998 Pinot Noir), Balinese Spiced Grilled Lamb Chops (1998 Zinfandel) and Lemon Grass Chocolate Latte Pudding (1999 Cabernet Sauvignon).
