Hokkaido delegates look to establish
a tourism link with Hawaii

Two ice blocks weighing a total of 1 ton were flown from Hokkaido, Japan, and carved into a traditional "yukidaruma" (Japanese snowman) yesterday by a delegation fronting Shirokiya in Ala Moana Center. Miss Sapporo 2002, Chihiro Ikegami, was part of the delegation that promoted travel to Hokkaido. The snowman, which had been carved earlier, was ready to have final decorations applied.



SHAVE ICE BREAK

Aaron Miller, 4, got a bite of shave ice on Saturday from his mother, Colleen Miller, as his brother, Nicholas, 6, looked on. They got their shave ice from an ice cream truck that was parked at YWCA's Camp Kokokahi on Kaneohe Bay Drive.



DEFECTIVE SCULPTURE WILL BE REPLACED

City workers at Kuhio Beach this morning dismantled Kauai artist Holly Young's sculpture "Makua and Kila" to make way for a new version that is to arrive Wednesday. This original statue, placed at the beach about six months ago, had casting problems.
