Power loss disrupts
night spots, businesses

Star-Bulletin staff

A power failure in an underground cable disrupted business at Waterfront Plaza and Aloha Tower Marketplace last night.

The power failure forced a slight delay in the production and printing of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin's morning editon, whose editorial offices are located at 7 Waterfront Plaza.

Hawaiian Electric Company spokesman Bruce Benson said the power failed about 6:45 p.m., about the same time a manhole cover was blown into the air near the intersection of Punchbowl and Pohukaina streets.

There was a similar incident involving a manhole cover near the same intersection about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.

No one was hurt in either incident.

Power was restored to Aloha Tower about 9:47 p.m. last night while power to Waterfront Plaza was restored about 10:38 p.m.
