like Patsy Cline?Star-Bulletin staff
Manoa Valley Theatre is searching for someone who can portray the country-music legend, complete with vocals.
Auditions for MVT's "A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline" will be held at 10 a.m. June 1 for the five male roles and 1 p.m. for the Cline role, at Bakken Auditorium at Mid-Pacific Institute in Manoa. Performances will run Sept. 4 to 22.
Auditions are being held earlier than usual because the Patsy Cline Estate holds final say over MVT's selection for the lead role. Callback auditions will require consent to be videotaped and photographed.
Those auditioning for the lead must sing a prepared Patsy Cline song. Guest director Jim Hutchison will also cast one male as radio deejay and announcer Little Big Man, and four male actor-singers in dual roles as the Jordanaires (backup vocalists, with some dancing required) and radio announcer Joltin' Jim McCoy, recording engineer Owen, a Vegas stand-up comic and a Carnegie Hall stand-up comic.
Those auditioning for the Jordanaires must sing a prepared musical theater or country-western song. An accompanist will be provided.
Scripts are available for perusal at the MVT business office, 2833 E. Manoa Road, between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Written by Dean Regan, "A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline" traces the singer's career from her days in honky-tonks and on the radio, her rise to fame at the Grand Ole Opry and her triumphs in Las Vegas and Carnegie Hall.
The show features more than 20 of her hits, including "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," "If You've Got Leavin' on Your Mind," "Your Cheatin' Heart," "I Fall to Pieces" and "Crazy."
