The countdown has begun for Predrag Savovic. Six weeks to D-Day ... Draft Day for the NBA.

The Hawaii guard, who turned 26 yesterday, eschewed Sunday's graduation ceremonies in order to finish a weekend workout with the Detroit Pistons. He has also had individual workouts with the Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets in anticipation of the June 26 draft.

According to league officials, Savovic's stock continues to rise, and some publications have the 6-foot-6 All-American going late in the first round.

Although ESPN.com has Savovic 10th out of 10 on its top small forward list, most teams are looking at Savovic as a shooting guard. The team most in need of the services of UH's all-time 3-point shooter is Detroit, which has the 23rd pick.

The Grizzlies also like Savovic, but Memphis has the No. 4 pick and likely will go with Duke's Mike Dunleavy Jr. If Savovic is still available in the second round, Memphis may go for him; the Grizzlies' new president is Jerry West, who said he was impressed with Savovic when he saw him play last year.

Someone also waiting for draft day is former Kalaheo High School standout Julian Sensley. The 6-9 nomad, who was ranked in the Top 20 among prep forwards in the Class of 2001, applied for early entry last Friday.

Sensley graduated from St. Thomas More in Connecticut last June. He originally signed with California, but did not meet academic standards.

Sensley enrolled in three schools since last summer: Diablo Valley (Calif.) Community, Iona and Fresno State.
