Yokozuna Musashimaru
marches on at summer sumo

TOKYO (AP) - Yokozuna Musashimaru posted an easy win over Kyokutenho on Sunday to remain undefeated at 8-0, and tied for the lead at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament with ozeki Chiyotaikai and Mongolian Kyokushuzan.

Fighting in the day's final bout at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan, Musashimaru barely broke a sweat when he overwhelmed the helpless No. 4 maegashira from Mongolia and sent him out to his fifth loss.

Chiyotaikai, meanwhile, looked impressive in a solid win over Takanowaka.

After butting heads at the face off, Chiyotaikai sidestepped the charging No. 3 maegashira and then calmly shoved him out to remain undefeated. Takanowaka suffered his sixth loss of the 15-day tourney.

In an earlier bout, No. 10 maegashira Kyokushuzan grabbed No. 11 maegashira Tamanoshima by the arm and flung him into the ringside seats to maintain his share of the lead. Tamanoshima, who was slow getting up, dropped to 4-4.

In other major bouts, ozeki Tochiazuma got both arms around Tochinonada and waltzed him out to pick up his sixth victory. Komusubi Tochinonada dropped to 3-5.

Sekiwake Asashoryu of Mongolia got back on the winning track when he got a left-hand grip on the belt of Wakanosato and heaved the burly komusubi over the straw ridge to improve to 5-3. Wakanosato was handed his fourth loss.

Ozeki Kaio wasted little time in swatting down No. 2 maegashira Tosanoumi shortly after the face off to improve to 5-3 while handing Tosanoumi his fourth loss.

Ozeki Musoyama improved to 6-2 with a convincing win over Akinoshima. Using a powerful arm thrust, Musoyama drove the No. 5 maegashira out in a matter of seconds, sending him to his fifth loss.

Ninth-ranked maegashira Dejima remained one win off the lead at 7-1 after spinning down No. 8 maegashira Kaiho, who fell to 5-3.
