Cayetano, Harris expected to face Lions

Gov. Ben Cayetano and Mayor Jeremy Harris are expected to attend the general session of the 66th Annual Hawaii Lions Club Convention, which is scheduled to run from May 23 to 26 at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki.

The general session starts at 8 a.m. on May 24. Kay K. Fukushima, first vice president of the International Association of Lions Clubs, will be the keynote speaker at the convention. More than 500 people are expected to attend.

Local firms vie for a piece of the military pie

A two-day show at Hickam Air Force Base at the end of this month will let local vendors display goods and services they want to sell to military agencies and personnel in the islands, both on and off bases.

Organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, the "Experience Hawaii with Aloha Expo" will run 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 31 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 1, in the craft fair area on the Hickam base.

Exhibitors will include contractors who do business with the military, companies that want to do business with the military and Hawaii merchants who would like military families to shop with them off-base, the organizers said. Booth space is available.

IREM meeting focuses on Hawaii home inventory

The Institute of Real Estate Management Hawaii chapter will discuss the impact of new residential development on the supply of existing homes on Oahu at its June 19 membership meeting at the Ala Moana Hotel.

Speakers include David Murphy of Brookfield Homes, Bob Brandt of Gentry Homes, Harry Sanders of Castle & Cooke and Stanford Carr of Stanford Carr Development. Cost of the meeting is $20 for members and $26 for guests.

Flooring experts gather for Sept. convention

The Hawaii Flooring Association will hold a convention Sept. 12-15 at the Makaha Resort & Golf Club with panel discussions and seminars.

HFA has a membership of more than 70 contractors, suppliers and manufacturers of carpet, tile and wood flooring.

Bug alert: Exterminators heading for Waikiki

People interested in how to deal with insect infestations and other pest control matters will be able to attend a free show later this year, when the Hawaii Pest Control Association offers its annual "Learning Conference & Trade Show" Nov. 15 at the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel.

Registration will be required for those who want to attend the various educational sessions.

The next day, Nov. 16, the association will extend its conference to the Big Island for the managers and owners session, at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.
