Details about the size limits being proposed and how these differ from current rules are available at www.state.hi.us/dlnr/dar or by writing the Division of Aquatic Resources at 1151 Punchbowl St., Room 330, Honolulu, HI 96813.
The purpose of the change is to allow fish to reach breeding size and reproduce before they are caught. The DLNR's Division of Aquatic Resources expects the move will result in more plentiful fishing as more juvenile fish mature before they are caught.
