Isle resorts offer fun, educational keiki programs
At Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Hawaii, even the littlest guests can get lots of attention.The Keiki Aloha Program allows keiki ages 5-12 to participate in fun, educational and cultural activities. Call (800)782-9488 for more details.
>> Oahu: At the Royal Hawaiian, Sheraton Waikiki, Sheraton Moana Surfrider and Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, keiki can snorkel, fly kites and boogie-board. Excursions to the zoo, aquarium, Hoomaluhia, Diamond Head, and the Bishop Museum are available. At night, go crab hunting or on a hotel scavenger hunt, decorate turtle cookies and play games.
The cost is $30 per child for a full day, or $20 plus tax per child for an individual program. Meals are available for $6.50 for lunch, or $12 for dinner.
>> Maui: Kaanapali's Sheraton Maui and The Westin Maui kids' programs are held at the Westin's Keiki Kamp.
The Day Kamp is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily, at a guest rate of $45 per day and $30 for each sibling. Non-guests pay $60 for the day and $40 for each sibling. Lunch and a T-shirt are included on the first day. A half-day is $22.50-$25.50.
The Nite Kamp runs 6:30-9:30 p.m., and includes snacks, safari, movies and crafts. Guests pay $20 for the first child, and $10 for each sibling; non-guests pay $30 and $20.
At Maui's Kapalua Bay Hotel & Ocean Villas, Kamp Kapalua offers sand-castle building, tide- pool exploration, fish-feeding, crafts and storytelling from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. A rate of $45 a day per child and $35 a day per sibling includes lunch, a snack and T-shirt.
>> Lanai: The Pilialoha program offered to guests at the Lodge at Koele and Manele Bay Hotel, includes exploring tide pools, building a volcano and becoming a Hawaiian cowboy. A full day is $60 per child; $55 covers the evening-only session; a half-day is $40 per child.
>> Kauai: Poipu's Sheraton Kauai Resort program costs $40 per child, including lunch, activities, T-shirt and cap. A half-day session is $20-$25. Night sessions, excluding dinner Fridays and Saturdays, are available by request at $10 per hour per child. Activities include lei-making, fishing, sand- castle building and storytelling.
The Princeville Resort offers ti-leaf lei-making, sand-castle building and Hawaiian games. The cost is $60 per child daily; $50 for a sibling, and lunch is extra. Babysitting is available for $10 per child, per hour.
>> Big Island: The Orchid at Mauna Lani's Keiki Aloha program lets children learn Hawaiian culture. Enjoy storytelling, hula lessons, weaving and other crafts. Outdoor activities include a shoreline safari and a visit to a petroglyph park.
Half- or full-day and Saturday night programs are available, at $40 for a half-day to $60 for a full-day, including lunch.
