She's two years older and two years better. And she's apparently going to finally get a chance to play for the Hawaii women's volleyball team. Lundqvist ready
to join WahineBy Cindy Luis
cluis@starbulletin.comKarin Lundqvist, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker from Skarholmen, Sweden, has verbally committed to the Wahine after receiving her release from Montana State. Lundqvist is a two-time all-Big Sky honoree who led the Bobcats to a combined 39-15 record the past two seasons.
The Hawaii coaches had seriously looked at Lundqvist in high school but backed off when she tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. She recuperated well enough to lead Montana State in hitting percentage (.310) and blocks (139 total) last season.
As a freshman, Lundqvist also recorded a rare triple-double with 11 kills, 13 digs and 10 blocks in the Bobcats' victory over Cal State Northridge.
If admitted to school, Lundqvist would be the third and final scholarship recruit for the 2002 season. She will have two years of eligibility.
Willoughby selected: Wahine sophomore hitter Kim Willoughby has been invited to train in the USA Volleyball National A2 Program.
The All-American is one of eight players who received their official invitations yesterday. The A2 team will train with the U.S. Women's national team at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., from May 19 to June 24.
