What’s hot, what’s not

art

Farrington High School senior Xania Cadoy and sophomore Donovan Yonamine share what's hot and not in their universe:

Xania Cadoy

Places to grind

Hot: Zippy's. Their (beanless) chili, chicken plate and Orange Bang are great.
Not: McDonald's because it's the same old food and we're not kids anymore.

Places to go on a date

Hot: Ward Entertainment Center. There are so many places your date can take you, like Ward Stadium 16, Dave and Buster's, shops like Quiksilver, Ala Moana Beach Park down the road. It's just convenient.
Not: Fast food restaurants.

Musical artists

Hot: No Doubt. Everyone can relate to their kind of music.
Not: Backstreet Boys. They always sing about the same subject -- love.

TV shows

Hot: "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" The comedians are all great at improvising.
Not: Reality shows like "Survivor" and "The Bachelor." They're boring and exaggerated.

Living in Kalihi

Hot: Pride. Even though we have a bad reputation, we're proud to live in Kalihi.
Not: People judge us without knowing us. When you say "I live in Kalihi," you get this look, something between horror and sympathy.

Donovan Yonamine

Places to grind

Hot: A place down the road from Farrington called Yuki's. It's close to school, the food is cheap and we can get back before lunch recess is over.
Not: Old Spaghetti Factory. The food is bland.

Places to go on a date

Hot: To her favorite mall to go shopping so you can buy her whatever she wants, then go to a movie afterward.
Not: Chuck E. Cheese's. It's not a place to get romantic.

Musical artists

Hot: System of A Down. The way their music flows on "Toxicity" puts you in a trance.
Not: 'N Sync -- all the songs they sing just plain 'N Suck.

TV shows

Hot: "The Osbournes." They live the lives we wish we had and share similar problems, like losing their credit cards and having a stupid neighbor next door.
Not: "The Tom Green Show." He's irritating since he just does the same jokes and gags over and over. It makes you want to jump into the TV and kick his butt.

Living in Kalihi

Hot: The people you meet. They're very friendly and they care a lot.
Not: The gangs that send bad messages to kids.
