Hawaii

By Dave Donnelly

Hello in there,
whether it’s an
unborn boy or girl

LOCAL attorney David Fasi got a good look at his unborn child yesterday morning, and so did millions of others. His wife, Sydney Fernandez Fasi, was the subject of a demonstration on the "Today" show of a new 4-D ultrasound machine that shows the clearest of photos of the unborn child. Sydney asked that they not tell her if it were a boy or girl because she didn't want to know. Her first impression: "He looks like his daddy." No offense to David, the son of former mayor Frank Fasi, but his wife is not only one of the most beautiful women in the state, she also holds the title "Mrs. Hawaii." Both the Fasi and Fernandez clan were inundated by calls from mainland friends who see the show hours before it's shown locally. But KHNL dropped the ball, not mentioning the upcoming segment on Sydney and her baby -- maybe because no mention of her being Mrs. Hawaii was made -- they could have been plugging it all morning ...

ONE of the many millions of viewers who'll be tuned into "ER" tomorrow night on Anthony Edwards' final appearance is casting director Garrison True. The day he got back from coaching actors for new TV pilots in L.A., True got a call from the mother of 14-year-old actress Hallee Hirsch, who plays Edwards' daughter on the show. Hallee's mom invited True to the North Shore where the "E.R." show was being filmed for a reunion lunch. She told him, "After all, you were he one who started it all for Hallee in Pensacola, Fla. when you sent us to her first agent." True had honestly forgotten. And how is the young teenage actress doing, you ask? Well, she just bought her own home in an upscale section of the San Fernando Valley. What were you doing at 14? ...

High si for Sergio's

THEY'VE only been open for two week in the Hilton Hawaiian Village, but already Sergio's has brought in a new chef. He hails from Denver, and in my opinion and that of three Italian friends, the judgment was a unanimous "Si." Scruples owner Fred Piluso (and his lovely lady friend, ballet dancer Kamakoa Page) plus Paolo Migati and -- believe the name or not, it's real -- Michael Corleone. It was unanimous that every dish was to die for. Not so unanimous was the verdict on Bobby Blake, accused of killing his wife. Blake is an old pal of Piluso's and in his opinion, "I don't think he did it. I can't believe he did it." ...

THE man behind the local Jazz Festival, Abe Weinstein, found himself on the same morning TV show with UH President Evan Dobelle and discovered their mutual love of jazz. The two talked more and then Weinstein was introduced to the new Dean of External Affairs at UH, Paul Costello. One result: Festival morning classes will now be held at the UH Bandroom and a special reception will be held at Dobelle's home to celebrate the partnership ...

Yo boy

IT was a combination birthday/Boy's Day weekend for yo-yo expert Evan Nagao. He turned 6 on Saturday and entertained a crowd at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center the next day for those attending the Japanese Cultural Center's Hawaii's Boy Day Festival. You may have seen Evan on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno next year, and his next big appearance will be on "Ripley's Believe It or Not" this summer ...
