Hok Get’s rescue was a no-brainer

The Hawaiian Humane Society is taking a lot of flak for spending thousands of dollars to rescue Hok Get, aka Forgea, the dog left stranded on a tanker. But the most vocal opponents have likely never given a cent to the society, so it isn't their call how the group spends its money.

The society exists on donations from animal lovers. It isn't funded by the government.

Besides, people across the nation were sufficiently moved by this saga to donate money specifically for Hok Get's rescue.

A dog left alone on a ship cannot run away from its plight or hope for help from a sympathetic neighbor. The options were to rescue Hok Get or leave her to die. The Humane Society did the right thing.
