Entertaining pals witness
isle couple repeat nuptials

THERE were some entertainers doing what they could to entertain themselves in a McCully park on Sunday. Dick Jensen, who's a reverend as well as a singer and who has united many couples, had the tables turned on him. He played the part of the groom as he married Toni Marinovic of Kauai. So who did the services? Why none other than Rev. Earl Takaoka, remembered by old-timers as Tani, an entertainer from the past. Preparing food for the guests was lunchwagon entrepreneur Iva Kinimaka, another entertainer who's an old pal of Jensen, and whose brother Kalani Kinimaka is both entertainer and minister on Maui. Jensen and his bride had just been married in Las Vegas but wanted to do it again in Hawaii ... Speaking of Vegas, Anna Lea, who entertained in clubs in these parts for years before heading for Vegas, is coming back in early June for a visit. I saw her in Vegas a few months ago and she still looks as cute as ever ...

WHEN adman Marty Schiller saw his new granddaughter, Raquel Ashleigh, for the first time, he held her in his arms and in a flash recalled having gone to Florida to adopt his daughter, Stacy, 27 years ago. The new father is named Fabio, but Schiller says he's not related to the male model who got hit in the face by a flying goose while on a roller coaster. ... Incidentally, "Into the Mirror" is the newest book by Lawrence Schiller, Marty's brother, written with investigative materials he uncovered with Norman Mailer, dealing with the life of master spy Robert P. Hanssen. Mailer is turning the material into a four-hour mini-series which Lawrence Schiller will produce and direct for CBS. The two have worked together on many projects over the years -- I met them while covering the "Thrilla in Manila" back in 1975 ...

Can't take 'em with you

ACTOR John Hunt, who was so effective as the uptight Mr. Kirby in "You Can't Take It With You" at HPU, missed some performances last week and had to be replaced by an understudy as he landed in the hospital with -- gallstones? They won't let you take them with you, even if for some reason you want to, and Hunt is hoping to return to the stage for this week's performances. Now that's a trouper! ...

PRETTY Diane Ako of KHNL isn't the only high-profile lady in her household. Not since her yellow Labrador, Kona, was taped for a Star-Bulletin TV commercial filmed recently. It wasn't Kona's first flirtation with fame -- she also was gussied up by Floral Specialist's Renee Gray to sport a special haku lei as she served as "flower dog" at nuptials for Ako and hubby Claus Hansen ...

Big score for Foodbank

THE biggest score at Restaurant Row's Foodbank Drive Saturday wasn't just having former Miss America Angela Perez Baraquio, Foodbank spokesperson Teresa Kendall, wife of Star-Bulletin president and publisher Don Kendall, or Judge James Burns (aka Mr. Emme Tomimbang) with Perry & Price broadcasting live for two hours. The thrill of the day was when the Food & Beverage Coalition brought in 350,000 pounds of food -- that's like a good-sized grocery store -- as its contribution ...
